Rail Live is a winner…

25.06.2016

Storm Geomatics attended Rail Live as exhibitors for the first time! On the 22-23 June 2016 the doors opened to one of the UK’s biggest open-air rail shows with suppliers from across the industry coming together to show their goods and services. [nbsp]It was a brilliant event and many heads were turned passing the Storm Geomatics stand as we were the only company with a boat out on display. Many questions were asked, such as;

Why is there a boat at a rail live? Why has someone chopped a mannequin in half? Why is the MD lying in the reeds with said mannequin?!

All of these questions and many more were answered throughout the two days. [nbsp]Rail engineers were interested in the services Storm Geomatics can provide such as scour assessment surveys of rail bridges that span water, river channel modelling surveys, track drainage surveys and topographic surveys that are required for engineering projects.

A number of dam monitoring surveys were required this month from the Environment Agency. Utilising the latest and greatest bit of levelling kit being from Leica Geosystems – the LS15, surveyors completed all of these on time with spectacular accuracy. [nbsp]An example of this was the monitoring of the flood embankments along the River Calder which surveyors levelled 100 monitoring pins over a distance of 500 meters which came back with a misclosure of only 0.00025m! [nbsp]The survey data is used to ensure the dams and embankments are stable as if they are breached the water they hold back could cause serious damage and disruption.
