Technical Training Lead
Core Purpose:
To ensure all operational staff are technically competent, consistently trained, and supported – driving standardisation, enhancing output reliability, and improving overall delivery quality across the business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Training & Development: Design and deliver training programs, identify skills gaps, support onboarding, deliver classroom and site-based training.
- Technical Support: Provide day-to-day support, troubleshoot issues, assist survey teams remotely and on-site.
- Collaboration: Work with Principal Surveyors to create and maintain SOPs, share and standardise knowledge.
- Standards & Consistency: Maintain SOPs, workflows, and guidance materials.
- Quality Improvement: Analyse errors, implement improvements, reduce rework.
- Equipment & Systems Training: Train staff on equipment, software, and new technologies.
- Health & Safety: Reinforce H&S standards and deliver training support.
- Undertake some final project QA where required, presentation only.
KPI’s & Success Measures:
- Improved team competency and reduced technical errors.
- Reduction in QA issues and rework rates.
- Up-to-date SOPs and training materials.
- Positive feedback from operational teams.
- Fast resolution of technical queries.
Experience and Profile:
- Senior, Principal Surveyor background or a surveying background with a training and support role.
- Broad technical knowledge across survey disciplines.
- Strong communication and mentoring skills.
- Organised and proactive approach.
- Supportive and approachable personality.
- Delivery of Storm’s Winning Behaviours.
- You must be a charismatic communicator with a passion for the geospatial industry.
- You will be an advocate for professional membership
- You don’t need to be an expert in water-based surveys.

Location & travel:
Based at our Shipston-on-Stour office.
Regular travel to Thornbury and occasional UK site visits for training delivery.
Primarily office-based (37.5 hours per week), with some overtime required.
