During August, Storm’s specialist geospatial surveying teams were in high demand, taking on a variety of complex projects aimed at providing hyper-intelligent data solutions for the UK’s river corridors. As the UK’s only geospatial survey company specialising solely in rivers and lakes, Storm bring unmatched expertise to every project, ensuring precision and accuracy.

One of the key projects this month was a detailed bathymetric survey of a 10-kilometer stretch of the River Idle in Nottinghamshire. This section of the river has been flooded for over three years, leading to concerns over how silt buildup has impacted the river’s capacity. The survey was crucial in calculating the volume of silt and understanding how it affects water flow and flood risk.

The project presented many challenges, from unpredictable water conditions to the sheer scale of the area surveyed. However, Project Leader Surveyor Tom Isaac executed a well-prepared plan that ensured the project’s success. Read the full case study to learn how Tom and his team tackled these challenges.

Elsewhere, another survey team ventured to Somerset to conduct a topographic and channel survey of a greenfield site that is being transformed into a wetland to treat water from an adjacent brook. With thick summer foliage creating visibility challenges, the project was not without its obstacles.

Surveyor Ben Frimley worked closely with the client, discussing potential challenges and offering innovative solutions. His implementation of a new workflow method ensured the survey’s success. Discover how Ben’s new method streamlined the process in the case study.

As August came to a close, the whole company took a moment to celebrate their hard work at an exciting event—the ALL IN ONE BBQ Competition. Hosted by Mike & Polly Hopkins, the competition challenged teams to create a three-course meal using a list of provided ingredients, plus one extra ingredient of their choice.

The additional twist? Each team had to build their own flat-packed BBQ before cooking! As the late summer sun shone, our teams showcased their culinary skills, teamwork, and competitive spirit. Delicious food, laughter, and camaraderie marked a perfect end to the busy month.

As Autumn approaches why not take advantage of the Yearly Survey Calendar to ensure maximum profit from your investment of survey? With foliage dropping RPAS surveys are optimum.
